“Once you do away with the idea of people as fixed, static entities, then you see that people can change and there is hope.”

About Maggie

Hi! Maggie, here. I’m so excited that you’re exploring my site and learning more about who I am, what I do, and how I do it. I recognize that, right now, you may not have much energy to do more than what you absolutely have to do, so I feel honored that you’ve chosen to use some of your energy to see what I’m about. Thank you, sincerely. Now, let’s get to the good stuff….

I’m a hopeful, curious, somewhat feisty introvert who swears. I encourage clients to express themselves in their own language. Therapy can be hard enough; there’s no sense in adding to that by worrying about the “right” way to say what you need to say or worrying that a loved one will find out you think they can be a pain in the ass sometimes. My office is a safe space, and our work is confidential. The therapeutic relationship and the work we’ll do is rooted in connection and conversation. That’s right – the work WE will do. Together, we’ll examine patterns in your life, identify goals you want to reach and make a sort of map to those goals. You’re the expert on your life, which means I can’t do much without your engagement & participation. When you find yourself doing hard work, I’ll be there as a support, a guide, a cheerleader, and a hype woman.

I have over 10 years of experience working in mental health holding positions in a variety of environments, which include: a residential treatment facility for adults who have dual diagnoses, a community supervision department, a private practice that provided sex offender treatment, and a criminal defense attorney’s office. While working in the residential treatment facility, I was fortunate to expand my knowledge and skills regarding the criminal justice system by providing competency restoration training to juveniles and adults, and by serving as a member of the facility’s sex offender treatment program. I furthered my knowledge, skills, and training while working as a probation officer, as a legal assistant, and as a practicum student working in a private practice that provided sex offender treatment.

That’s A LOT about criminal justice and especially sex offender treatment – I know. If we jump in the Way Back Machine, we learn that my interest in mental health started with a desire to become a therapist when I entered college. Criminal justice and sex offender treatment didn’t come on the scene until much later, and while those interests have persisted and have enriched my life, my knowledge base, and what I bring into my work, what kept me working in mental health all this time was the drive to become a therapist who will support any adult facing any challenge.

Cut to: Today.

My rich and varied experience has taught me about compassion, empathy, radical acceptance and the inherent dignity and value of each human being. Those are priceless skills I continue to cultivate daily and that I bring into every session with every client. These are skills that are important to me as a professional and as a human being. Regardless of what brings you into my office, you are a human being who deserves compassion, positive regard and to live a life you find satisfying.
